Myanmar ballot goes ahead

May 10 - Voting on a new constitution takes place despite the devastation of Cyclone Nargis.

Critics have denounced the referendum and the constitution as an attempt by Myanmar's ruling military to tighten its 46-year grip on power while scores of relief workers are still waiting for visas to enter the country a week after the deadly storm that has killed an estimated 100, 000 people.
